verity, thanks for the kind words, it's nice to be told I'm intelligent and funny after the horrible week at work I've had.  I guess I am not hideous but I'm not beautiful or a head turner in any way.  Actually I share a house with 4 guys now!  So I can see where your coming from.  I have wondered what it would be like to be stunning looking for a day and see if you get treated differently - served first in bars, smiled at in the street, assisted in shops, etc etc.  Or are people intimidated by it?  Or would it be the same?
bobble sorry to hear youve had a bad week. i know what u mean about wanted to be gorgeous for the day. ive often wished i was better looking for obvious reasons but theres not much i can do about it i suppose. anyway i think really gorgeous women have problems realating to their looks. i think that sometimes they have trouble making / keeping female friends because of the jealousy factor. Would you want to go out on the town with Claudia Schiffer? It wouldnt do much for self esteem. I think that friends of stunners end up resenting them because they would worry their partners secretly fatasize about their mate. I know it would bother me. I also think that beautiful women have real issues with aging because theyve always got by on their looks and never really needed to rely on personality so they find it hard to adjust when they start to get old and wrinkly and men dont fall at their feet all the time anymore. i suppose thats when they resort to cosmetic surgery.

Verity, funny what you said re. beautiful women & aging - that's my mum all over!  She is very attractive and is terrified of 'looking' her age.  Strangely, I think she was both disappointed she produced such a plain child and relieved that I didn't take any attention away from her - I went to meet her from work one day as a teenager with no make-up on and she told me she was glad I wasn't looking my best as that would have made her look older! Thanks mum! She was/is a good mum really, but overly self conscious of her looks.

She also didn't have many female friends as I was growing up (she built some huge walls around herself) but this has changed in the last few years, I'm pleased to say.  I think she is slowly accepting the impacts of aging but she'll fight it for as long as she can.  Completely agree with your comment re. relying on personality!

Anyway hopefully this week will be better than the last - hope you have a good week too x
