Did anyone watch this tonight, how did they get it all done for £23,000
Complete rewire (with family help) brand new kitchen, new flooring throughout,
damp proof course, walls all tanked because of damp throughout. roof repaired and new flashing applied, garden landscaped and walls rebuilt(OK at cost as co. used for potential customers to view) Vermin treatment and eradication, total redecoration throughout, outside of building re-rendered and painted and it looked like all new furniture. Was it a con and the tv station paid towards it?

they only had £10.000 to spend, apparently,
i dont think even £23,000 would have covered the work done
and its so unrealistic saying they can save money by doing the electrics by doing the wiring and sockets themselves, and the electrician just does the connecting up. i dont think that family even knew how to change a fuse.
Im having trouble myself with a retaining wall, can you imagine the replies i would get if i said to the builder, can i have it a lower price, and you can use it as a show wall.
but i did some some good information on how to get a substantial wall built
they must get paid by the tv company, but i feel like its a bit of a con
i reckon more like 35.000 for that lot
casually mentioned her son abroad that lent her the money to top up the 10.000 she had
have you though that if the house had not been chosen for this programme it could well have collapsed killing all in side and poss some passing folk, makes you think?
Watching the trailer for next weeks offering I am intrigued how they will save the property from being demolished. looked like a river was flowing through it.

No doubt, like last night's programme they will rebuild it for peanuts. Maybe they will get Melinda Messenger on loan from the Beeb to beg , steal or borrow all the building materials required.

I suspect the TV companies foot most of the bill.
thats what is said before on another thread on this i think because they allow a whole programme to feature them and their house a few grand will pass hands after all without it there'd be no [programme
i will say that on come dine with me a friend of mine was on it and they only got £120.00 each and wee still filming at 5am to finish the prog
@burbie - if you said it to a garden company AND you had a film crew filming you, you might well get that answer!
if sara beeney had been presenting it, it would have gone up 100 grand and everyone would be suicidial from the old doom-sayer putting the mockers on everything.
Many years ago (over 25), I had a friend who got married and she and her new hubbie bought a house in Worcester with loads of problems - damp/wet rot/dry rot/wiring and plumbing needed/bathrooms and kitche replacement. You name it, it was there.

They were visiting someone like a B&Q or Travis and Perkins for materials - this was to be a three/four year recovery project to leave them with a fine Victorian manse.

There was someone with a questionnaire who stopped them and asked them for some information - Do you have any of the following problems? type of questions. Yes, Yes, Yes and Yes etc.....

Long and short of it was some house care/restoration project for ITV and they had everything done for them inside six months by good specialists and to a high order - and even their hotel bill covered as part of the "rent."
