A very old but reliable product here.

Wash whites together, and coloured clothes separately. I occasionally put my tea-towels or cotton whites in a bucket with some cold water and domestos/bleach if they look a bit off white. And using a hotter wash helps, but read the labels.
If they're pure white, with no other colours in them, like childrens' socks for example, i've been known to soak in a bucket of mild bleach solution overnight before washing as normal.
Ahaa! Snap AYG!
Yep, don't let my wife wash for you :)

i will try that mamyalynne
use a scoop of vanish oxi action crystal white in every whites wash and they come up absolutely sparkling. if you have some whites which have gone a bit greyish then just keep putting them through an oxi wash and it soon rejuvenates them to their former glory. all in a 30 degree, 30 minute wash, no need for a hot wash. it really is wonderful stuff and i highly recommend it.
I've got some 'white' sheets that are a peculiar greyish colour - yes I washed some navy blue socks with them - don't know how they got in there but it has dyed them and I cannot get them back to white whatever I do.
add an aspirin to the wash
Always use powder - not liquids or gels- for whites. Powders contain bleaching-agents, the others do not.
no need for special oxy action - a dispersible aspirin does the same job for a fraction of the price
Really? I shall get a bottle of them the next time I go to the pharmacy, which now I come to think of it is tomorrow. Every penny counts nowadays and it might even help with my dyed sheets.
I don't know why or how but my whites are always white and, apart from only putting whites together, I don't do anything special or use any particular product!! I do have a Meile machine though and they are good :)
I use colour catcher sheets, they really work on a mixed wash.
Starbuck, I doubt an aspirin will get your once whites white again, sorry. They do help keep whites white though =)
If I find I've dyed things a funny colour I buy a dye that will suit most of those things and dye them permanently
starbuck, i reckon if you use this oxy white stuff you'll see a marked difference in your poor sheets, it contains sodium carbonate peroxyhydrate which must be a bleaching agent. if i don't have enough whites for a whole wash and occasionally put a white in with an ordinary wash then i can really see a difference. it's not that the colours run, it's simply because they haven't had this oxy stuff added and it takes a couple of oxy washes to get them back to the sparkling white they used to be.
i'm sure the aspirin thing works but i'm happy to keep on with what i use as it's so effective.
If you hang your washing outside try to put them in the shade, the sun makes whites go yellow. Turn all clothes, white or coloured, inside out to wash & dry.
Try the dye reducer from dylon its designed to strip dye prior to redyeing but it can 'destabilise ' transferred dyes so a normal whitening agent works better
Don't know about washing clothes but my late hubby always put his false teeth in a mild bleach solution overnight and always had sparkling white gnashers!
