If it's airmail it should take 1-2 weeks. I've sent and received stuff from the States and it's only taken 5 days, I'd allow a little longer though. Also depends on how you've paid, if you've paid PayPal they will have received your payment immediately but if you're sending them payment then you'll have to wait longer.
From my experience, it can take anything from 7-14 days. Just a word of warning - you might have to pay VAT and import tax when the item arrives. It depends on what it is exactly you've bought - but I once got stung when I ordered a watch from the US from Ebay. The item cost 90, but when the postman arrived with it he wanted a further 30 Vat and import duty. Just a word of warning because not everyone is aware, and what started off as a cheap item can become expensive.
I might be stating the obvious, but it also depends on how soon it is posted after payment is received.  The Royal mail quote 5 days for airmail and 56 days for surface mail.  One of my customers in the USA told me he received my package 2 days after he made the payment by PayPal.  I would consider that to be the exception rather than the rule.  If you are in a hurry to receive it for a special occasion it is worth mentioning that to the vendor.  Most people would then make the effort post it as soon as possible.
