Microsoft are asking me to update my version of Explorer to version 9.
Will this disturb any of my everyday used applications such as Favourite sites or any other areas of the Windows 7 Home premium Laptop? Thanks.

You don't have to upgrade to it, you can just deselect the download.
It won't get rid of your favourites list or affect any other area of your PC if you do choose to install it though.

Daffy. Just as a matter of interest, are you using Explorer 9?

Alternatively, if you want to improve your browsing experience dramatically, forget about IE completely and install Google Chrome...
