Help. I think I've got a bug?
There was a program called Software Informer that I tried and didn't like, so I deleted it but it seems to be indestructable. It shows up in the Autostart folder as C:\Promgram Files\Software Informer\softinfo.exe-autorun and I don't know how to get rid of it. I'm using Microsoft Security Essentials and the default firewall (Windows7). The program also seems to be causing my Google search to hesitate before working as normal.
Does anyone know of this prog. or maybe experienced it themselves.
I will really appreciate some help on this one!
Cheers

Boot into safe mode.
Delete "Sup_softinfo.exe" and "msvcp60.dll" from whatever folder the program was installed in (you may need to do a search for those files if you can't remember which folder it was).
Remove it from your Autostart folder.
Thinking about it though, and as you want to remove the software altogether, you could just delete the folder it was installed in and remove it from Autostart.

Thanks for that quick reply Huderon. You make it sound so simple!
I just wish I knew what you meant. I'm a computer 'nugget', so step by step instructions I can follow, but........"Sup-softinfo.exe" and "msvcp60.dll" ; I mean, come-on!!!
Think I'll just get a can of Stella out of the fridge and chew on this one.
The only reason I know it's in the Autostart folder is because that's what I'm told when I run Tweaknow Power Pack and click on the Startup Manager option.
I used to be very happy with my ORIC!
Cheers Huderon

Hi Grandpappy, You don't say which Windows System you are using but try the following:-
Click START, click RUN.
type MSCONFIG in the panel then click OK
In next panel click the START tab (top right)
look for the Software Informer (or words relating to it) and remove the tick from the little box on the left.
Click OK
Click RESTART.
After the computer has restarted
Click START, click SETTINGS, click CONTROL PANEL, select ADD/REMOVE PROGRAMS.
Highlight the line covering SOFTWARE INFORMER then click the CHANGE/REMOVE box.
This should remove all relative program and registry files.
click the X (top right of panel) to close panel.
Now open Windows Explorer and look in C:\ Program files to see if any program entry relates to Software informer. Any relative folders and files can now be deleted and you should be rid of the program.
Hope this helps.
