Anyone seen this? Been very worried all day because it is passing Dominican Republic where my daughter is on holiday.
Conflicting reports as to its path, but seems to be out in ocean at moment, phew!

Slinkycat, it's no worse than some of the storms we get in the UK it just has the Hurricane label because of where it was generated in the tropics. The core winds should stay to sea beyond the Dominican Republic but it might go Cat 3 and roll towards southern Florida after that. Storm surge is only a couple of metres. The storm is still in it's infancy but it's destructive power shouldn't cause the DR much hassle

It s the first Hurricane of this Year, all the other 8 before it are classed as Tropical Storms or Lows.
Winds have to reach a certain level before being classed as Hurricanes.
