It hits the Caribbean nations, it gets 30 seconds on the news. Now, as it heads for the US coast, the rolling news channels are spending hours on it, live press conferences from the NY mayor. Sat from in my confortable armchair, it all looks like hype and over reaction.

By all means cover natural disasters and their aftermath. But not hours of scaremongering for what will hopefully be just a wet and windy evening.

After reading 80 posts on the subject?

Mnnn! the juries out.
I think it's interesting but I like meterology - I did see the Mayor's press conference on TV and (havingbeen involved in disaster planning for another location) I thought what he was saying demonstrated well-founded emergency planning in practice.

Now that the emergency is averted, and it did indeed turn out to be just a bit of a windy evening, we should learn lessons.

1: chop down all tnose dangerous trees in NY State.
2. That's it.
Is that your eye witness account,eh?
Don't trivialise something you were not in.

Because we have never had a Cat 2+ storm and when we had one approaching Cat 1, look at what happened, Havoc, nothing less. Anybody remember Sevenoaks becoming Oneoaks......?
Given the benefit of hindsight I must now agree with Gromit's remarks regarding the over-kill of news reaching the UK over the threat to New York.

But as they say hindsight is a wonderful thing.
