Is there a legal obligation for retailers of batteries to provide a box for
safe disposal of used batteries??

Thanks, I think some retailers are starting to drag their heels a bit. I want to "smarten" them up but only when armed with all the relative legislation.
I seriously couldn't be bothered to cart old batteries round the shops and put them in those little containers - I just save mine in a box at home, and when I have enough, it goes to the tip with the rest of the recyclables which they don't collect (foil, etc.).
