Text message from '83838'

I have just received, seconds ago, a Text message from 83838 saying

We are pleased to confirm your credit linit on card ending 1111 is now £13000. For account information, reply BAL, BILL or TRAN. Standard charges may apply.

I can't find a card ending with those numbers (by the way - they aren't the numbers they quoted) but I do have a couple of card I took out purely for balance transfers but I can;t see that its one of those. Is this a genuine text or a scam?

Any ideas folks.

There is no indication anywhere which 'bank' the card belongs to.

I think u already know the answer to this. These scammers must send thousands of these types of messages (emails or text) in the hope that at least one person is sucked in.
It's a bit sad that some ppl actually fall for these.
The best ones are the emails where you've won a lottery that you've never even entered ..... or someone has inherited a fortune and wants to share their wealth with you.
You know the saying - if something sounds too good to be true ...... it prob is :)

Other people have had similar calls. Google 83838 and see what you find. The suggestion seems to be that there's something not entirely right. I'd ignore it.

Do NOT reply. There all sorts of scams rearing their ugly heads at the moment.
For instance, the 'we have set aside £3000 for your accident claim'

Ahhh - I do have a virgn card which I did a balance transfer and then cut up. That must be a way to encourage me to spend on the card.
