Laptops

Can anyone tell me if there are any rules/regulations covering carrying laptops on flights. Son seems to think it should be kept with you at all times or if you are going to put it in your luggage you may need to remove the battery?? Any advice appreciated.

Remember that many airlines operate a strict policy of one item of hand baggage only. That includes handbags, laptops, airport purchases, etc. (i.e. you have to fit ALL of those items into ONE bag, which must comply with that airline's size and weight regulations).
So (assuming that you're travelling with such an airline) you'll have to present your laptop separately as you go through the security check, but then put in inside your main flight bag to take it on board.

OH travels often with his laptop. He takes it in a shoulder bag which contains other bits of hand baggage. You have to take it out of the wrappings to put it through the security scanner, and often the security guys will give it a wipe with one of those hand scanners too. You certainly don't have to take out the battery.
