The old man they assaulted had 'dementia'. It's said it is worse now. If he can't change his will could his would-be killers get his money?

I don't know, but I do hope not. The scum should never benefit, I hope something can be done to stop them getting anything.
I read that story earlier - I was stunned by what these people were willing to do for money. They are vermin and should be locked up for life.
Because they didn't actually kill him, yes they still stand to inherit. However, if he has lost capacity I suspect his Deputy will make an application for a statutory Will leaving the money elsewhere.
(A statutory will is a will made by the Court for the testator - the Court can do this if the testator has lost testamentary capacity).

Is 'his Deputy' a sort of guardian appointed by a court?
Sickening...
What I thought was even more disgusting was the fact that they could google how to kill him. Is there no end to what you can google?
or that they were too stupid to try and cover their tracks in Google.
Sorry, been out!

Yes a Deputy is the person appointed to look after him if he has lost mental capacity and doesn't have an enduring power of attorney.
