Paypal said my bank wouldn't honour the payments and my bank said that this was a fault with Paypal,, as it had happened to other customers. After a lot of phone calls back and forth, I got fed up and cancelled Paypal, but soon after I opened another Paypal account with the same credit card and all has been fine since then. This was about 5/6 years ago and no problems since.

How is your Paypal account funded – if by credit card, it could be that the card has expired and you need to update the details (although Paypal normally give advanced warning of this). Your other option is to add another funding method – if you are using direct debit.
The problem is that this takes time, since Paypal requires the funding account to be validated, which involves them depositing two small amounts. Once you are aware of the deposit amounts, you can validate the account/funding method. Even if you bank on-line, this can take up to a week. If you need to wait for your monthly statement, you’ve got a long wait.

Ask him for his bank details and do a bank transfer. Rather depends on how much it is really. You could send a moneygram. I personally would try to sort out the paypal though because if you send money to the states and then dont receive your goods you will have no come back. there is no way you could chase it. At least with paypal you could get your money back if you didnt receive your goods
