How can I stop little reminders popping up on my screen, reminding me I have not renewed a security system. I dont want it anymore, thats why its cancelled.

Not quite as easy as that although in principle yes uninstall.
Progs like Norton and McAfee infiltrate the whole system to do their job and clicking uninstall doesn't, entirely.
You will need to download the uninstaller from the provider's site. It may be difficult to find as they want to keep taking your money! May even need to fire an email request to thier customer services.
It is then easy to run the proper uninstaller.
