my medical records

not sure if this is the right place for this but here goes, i believe i have the right to see my medical records with my gp, i am asking because i rang up the surgery a couple of weeks ago to enquire about it and although the receptionist explained that the centre manager was off and i would have to ring back when she was back, i got the impression from receptionists tone of voice that no one had ever asked for their records before and that i had to have a reason for wanting to see them rather than me just wanting to have a look, thanx in advance

Yes, you can see them.

You medical records are ... as the name suggests ... YOUR medical records.

Your GP keeps a copy of them, and may ask you for a small fee to cover the cost of making a copy for you.

But they must provide you with a copy, if requested.

I've never bothered to ask to see mine although I'm mildly curious. I just wonder if I could make head or tail of them anyway, if they are all in jargon and abbreviations.

They may make them available to you to read in the Practice...don't think they would charge you for that.
