USA road trip!

Hi,
I'm about to visit Atlanta, Georgia and would like to take a road trip starting and ending in Atlanta! I will have approx 3 days (2 overnight stays!) does anyone have any suggestions of places to go?!

Dollywood would be a possibility if that grabs you - or the Smoky Mountains National Park if it doesn't.

You could take a trip 50 or 100 miles North to the Smokey Mountains. Probably rent a car or a camper to explore. Beautiful countryside.

Savannah, Georgia and/or Charleston, South Carolina if you want to see the ocean.

If you opt for Savannah, Highway 17 from Savannah to Brunswick features as a ‘Best of the Road’ in my Rand McNally atlas – which is indicative of a particularly scenic route.

While in Atlanta, be sure to go to Stone Mountain. The bas-relief carving of the Confederate Generals on the side of the solid granite mountain is worth the short trip... especially at night. There's a Swiss made cable car that runs to the top where there's a small restaurant. You can see three states from there.
There's also a 5 mile long train ride that's seemingly cheesy but it's actually fun... especially if you've not been on the railroad. Several other things to do in the Park.
Additionally, one can spend at least half a day in downtown Atlanta at the Coca Cola museum (you heard me right).
Interstate Higway 285 completely circles the city of Atlanta and takes about 2 hours to drive around. Stone Mountain is off that highway on the east side of the cirlce.
The Atlanta History Center is in Buckhead... on the northwest quadrant of the cirlce. It's extremely interesting and Buckhead has the best eating establishments in or near Atlanta.
Lastly, it's about a 75 mile drive north from Atlanta on Interstate 75 and 575 to Blue Ridge, Georgia, but it's one of the most beautiful, forested mountain drives you'll ever take. Lotsa things to do and see on the way... (there's amuch longer locomotive powered railroad there... about 25 miles long)

Second Clanad's recommendation for Stone Mountain and the Coca-Cola Museum (the soda fountain in the basement is fab!).

I would also suggest if you are interested in space travel a trip to Huntsville and if you like Bourbon go to the Jack Daniels distillery.

Nashville is definitely worth a visit, Market St Brewery used to be very good for a night out.

Thank you so much!! I'm actually staying with a friend and have discovered im 6 miles from the smoky mountains so definitely will be visiting!! I think we've decided on visiting Memphis and then taking an alternative route back via Nashville and chatanooga! Thank you for your suggestions!
