Still able to video?

We are due to have our tv fitted with a separate erm free view top box, so I guess we'll need to buy a dvd recorder (without free view), but would we still be able to record from tv to video or not? Ta Muchly.

Yes you will still be able to video, but you will not be able to use the internal tuner in the video. you will have to plug the freeview set top box into the video and then record on the video on the ext or aux channel.

the downside is you'll only be able to record the same channel as you are watching.

Your old video recorder had its own analogue tuner. That is how it was able to record programmes without the tv being switched on, or record a different channel to the one you was watching.

You need to buy a new recorder with at least one tuner (freeview) to do the same thing.

I have a PVR (hard disk recorder) that can recorder two different programmes at the same time, or play one while recording another. This is fine as it can store up to 250 hours of tv.

I have it hooked up to cheap (£25) dvd recorder so that I can 'burn' any programmes I may wish to keep.

Do you really think a DVD recorder would allow you to record a DVD but not play it !

Of course they can play DVDs.

And any DVD recorder you buy nowadays will probably have a Freeview tuner in it.

If I were you .. I would save up for a Freeview PVR ... like a Humax .. and when you have it you can swap it with the Freeview box you have.
It will record add play back anything you want on Freeview .. plus it has extra inputs .. video, etc.
I think that's what you wanted to do originally .. right? ... but said DVD recorder?

This is not an answer to woodelf`s question but I would like to ask a question which is sort of related to the subject...hope you don`t mind my butting in...I have a V+ Virginmedia digi box..it has the facility to record to a video or DVD recorder for any programmes one has recorded into the top box hard drive.Although it says it is doing this,when I come to play the video,it is blank.At one point I did get the pic but no sound...now looking at the answers below it could be that the video/dvd player(a combined one) is not compatible,had it when we had analogue tv.
Could this be why I am having problems?????

VHG, if I bought a dvd from amazon, for example, then put it into the dvd recorder, it would play?
