Morning happy campers! :-)

Just got told by my sons teacher, they're having a sleepover in a couple of weeks, at the school.
They're going on camp next year (when he'll be in year six at Primary) and this sleepover is apparently like a trial run?
I asked where they're sleeping, and she told me either in the school hall, or in the church (it's a Catholic school), which I thought was a bit odd.

He's nearly ten, and I'm just unsure. He's never been away from home before, other than staying with my parents, so I'm a bit nervous about the whole thing.
Don't want to wrap him up in cotton wool, but at the same time I want him to be safe.

What would you do?

Thanks.

Thanks Mamya. I didn't want it to come across that I was wrapping him up in cotton wool, as I'm not. I'm just nervous as hell about him being away from home. You're right, it's because we love them so, so much... :-)
Flip, I think it's natural to worry because he is your son and he's not done this sort of thing before. My son went away with school in yr 5 and I felt apprehensive because he was never keen on sleepovers at friends' houses but he wanted to go on the school trip because most of his friends were going. It was only for 3 days, 2 nights and he absolutely loved it! In fact, in yr 6, they went to Paris for 3 nights and he went and loved that too. He said the coach journey was one of the best things (!) and sharing rooms with his friends was a good laugh (I bet they hardly got any sleep!). He is an extremely fussy eater so I thought he would probably not eat too well but he didn't starve as they always had chips on the menu, wherever you go!

One thing though, the school adamently said NO MOBILES ALLOWED! They weren't allowed to contact parents because the teachers said it sometimes makes the children more homesick if they hear from family. Any problems would go via school.

Your son's school offering sleepover at the school seems a good idea. My son's school didn't do that but they did suggest if a child hadn't ever slept over, then it would be a good idea to get one in with a friend before the trip.

Try not to worry, I'm sure he will have a great time!
It is, get prepared now for the first trip abroad!! I was a wreck.

Thanks, Scrummy. It's nice to know I'm not alone in feeling apprehensive. He'll be absolutely thrilled when I tell him he's going. Bless him.

Mamya, abroad? Eeekk! Oh my goodness, I'll be a bag of nerves!
Scrummyyummy is spot on, flip........some schools dont allow mobile phones for the reasons she stated at a child's younger age and all contact is done via the school.

These 1 night sleeps are try-outs for the chldren to settle in being away from home and to adapt and not get homesick.....then the trips away and abroad occur...anything from The Isle Of Wight to maybe The New Forest then France, Austria, Germany, Switzerland, and then NYC etc.......great fun for them and waht an experience for them to remember in their lives. :0)
what*

Actually, Yogi, whilst I have you here... completely off topic..
You're a dj, right? What kind of music do you play?
Hi again flip....nipped out. :0)

Over the years, I have played just about every variety/type of music possible at functions, but love playing house, garage, urban, trance, electro, rap, dubstep etc, as well as the epic dance tunes from the 70's, 80's and 90's soul/ jazz funk club classics and anthems. I'm lucky to have worked alongside, know and count as really good friends, some pretty big names in the music industry, whether it be on radio, tv or playing with them at venues both here and abroad and at music festivals or events.

Music is in my veins...always has been from young... and I enjoy every minute of it even now. I also help run DJ academies and take student classes interested in music techniques at various colleges, uni's and at The Brit School near Croydon too.

I'm not thinking of retiring just yet.......but when and if i ever do I will still be involved in music somehow.

Now thats lunch......and i got a KFC in ( healthy option tuesday meal....lol )

Speak soon :0) x

Ohh, is Yogi your DJ name? :-)

Pretty impressive, matey! x
DJ Yogi?.....now thats a thought :0)

No,flip....I just use my real name, which if i was to tell you, yourself or someone you know may well be famliar with.

I'm now off to my tuesday night pub quiz with the fruitloops.

Staying back on topic, all the very best to your little lad, flip. :0)
He's not going to be on his own - if he needs to contact you, there must be an appropriate quota of adults sleeping over too - he can always ask one of them if he feels he needs to contact you.
Hey flips my son is in year 2 at a catholic school + we have just been informed they do an overnight trip later this year to an all purpose infant trip centre about 15 miles away. I am dreading it, but he is over the moon with the thought of been with his 'school buds' for 2 days + a night!
This is I suppose, is in preparation for his week long adventure in the mountains of Wales when he's in year 6!
For his forthcoming yr2 trip, We are not allowed to ring, give moblie's to, etc, but we are allowed to write a short note that will be given to them after breakfast the day they come home. I suppose I should be thankful he's such a confident little dude, although he's growing up too quickly!
I think the trip for your Son will be the making of him x Good luck x
If it's orgainsed by the school, it should be okay ?
I was sent away to boarding school at age of 8. Bit of a shock but I survived and enjoyed it. Let him go- he'll have a great time and he'll come home 2ft taller for having done it!!
i have a son and yeah, hes only 6 but let him go, i mean, they need some freedom :)
