I posted on this one last night, DrF - universal disgust. It's been on the local TV news - he's identifiable - little sh1te was almost dancing down the street with the poor cat. He's a beautiful cat too - thankfully no lasting physical damage, he could have dislocated his tail. The cat is said to be placid so probably let him pick him up. I'd like get my hands on that...

I'd like to see this chav punished for his cruelty - I wholeheartedly agree that cruelty to animals is a cowardly act.
But that aside, I am in agreement with jno.
I find comments such as "...I feel no differently about cruelty to animals than cruelty to defenseless humans" extremely odd and, frankly, worrying.
The cruelty shown in the clip is sickening and I sincerely hope the culprit is caught and prosecuted, but at the end of the day, it was only a cat, not a child. Would people be as vociferous in their damnation if it was a rat?
Cruelty to animals is not the same as cruelty to humans. Cruelty to humans is obviously worse, and, thankfully, the law agrees.

When we domesticated animals and changed their behaviour so they became dependant on us we incurred a responsibility for them... I believe that a cruel act to a weaker creature is abhorrent... should we have a sliding scale...
depending on the type of animal...? (take humans out off the equation for a moment) Is it worse to harm a hamster...or a cat...a cat or a rare bird...a dog or a chimpanzee...? It might be said it is worse to harm a chimp as it is more intelligent... more 'like us' so how about a dolphin...?
A person who behaves in a cruel fashion with the intent of causing pain or suffering is less than fully human in my eyes and I would not give them the same consideration...
The term 'lowlife' is a good one punishment should be for a deliberate act of unnecessary cruelty ....regardless of what or who was the victim... until we respect all life as part of the whole we cannot claim to respect life at all...

Same cat OG - we can be grateful for that.
I just wonder about the mentality of any human who harms another animal (human and non-human) just for a laugh. It doesn't reflect well on their character and worth as a human being.
I know people who hate cats with a vengeance (they can be annoying animals) but they would never consider hurting one.
I despair sometimes that our future isn't going to be happy ever after stuff.

Here is a link to an interesting article in the Telegraph. Sorry for any mistakes - cat lying on my arm.
