Engine warning light in Fiesta 2001

Does anyone have any idea why my engine warning light is on? I was driving on a straight road at 2500 revs and it came on. I stopped the car and when i started it again 1hour later it was off. Then it came on again after 1 week. Is there a fault with my car?

It is small image of an engine.

Some times when the oil is running low or when the car is due for a service the engine light comes on.
