Can those accused expect a fair trial, since it has been 18 years since the Stephen Lawrence's murder?
/// Mr Lawrence said: ‘I’ve waited 18 years. I look forward to seeing justice at last. It has been a very long road.’ ///
/// Mrs Lawrence added: ‘All I can think about is Stephen and that perhaps we will finally get justice for him.’ ///
Understandable or not? it seems his parents have already made up their minds.
And please before some of you rain down on me, and call me a racist as is your way, please consider this:
I would have asked this question no matter what the colour of the victim or of the accused killers, and if in the future, they are indeed found guilty beyond all reasonable doubt (due to some damming evidence that no one yet know of) I say now that they deserve a very long jail sentence imposed upon them, and this long and disturbing case can finally be put to rest, and we can then move on.

I am sorry, and I do apologise for my reply to you, which I typed before i read your later post, with all those damming details that the Mail published.
Due to the paper's shocking behaviour, I agree entirely with you, they cannot possibly get a fair trial.
Incidentally, I hope the jury haven't also read the source of your last two paragraphs (those referring to the happenings in 2002 and 2010), because although they report of the kind of people they are, they have nothing to do with the case these men are being tried for.

aog it has been in other papers over the years, i do not wish to upset people if stephen was my brother i would want justice but the question was
>> Can those accused expect a fair trial, since it has been 18 years since the Stephen Lawrence's murder? <<
with all the reports i honestly think the answer is no i think it has turned into we want revenge and want the scum who the media blamed punished

as one has posted >> "Perhaps you should ask if they deserve a fair trial - they are savages!" <<

I would imagine that given the time involved and the high profile nature of the case whether they can get a fair trial will be very high up in the judges mind.
It's an important concern and one where it is irrelevant whether race is a factor.
But if the law professionals think that it can be done they should be allowed to try.
I have no doubt it will end up in appeal

February 1997: Stephen Lawrence was "unlawfully killed by five white youths", according to the jury's verdict of the inquest into his death.
Was Gadaffi guilty of war crimes?
Did Hitler commit war crimes?
Neither went on trial maybe we should see these as innocents portrayed badly in the media? After all they were never had a chance to defend themselves in court.
It is right that we jump through the hoops costing millions of pounds though to see justice is done.
