To answer your supplementary question, DC may well have a Conservative label round his neck, but to suggest that he is a clone of Mrs T is a bit far-fetched. I have seen no Conservative policies of any significance eschew from the Coalition that Mr Cameron leads. Every policy he might adopt which may appeal to Conservative voters is thwarted by the LibDems. Mrs Thatcher, faced with the hung Parliament DC faced in 2010 would have had the courage to have gone it alone. The government would have been defeated by the summer and a new election called. In that election the LibDems would have been wiped out and almost certainly a Tory majority returned. Cameron should do likewise forthwith and stop hiding behind the “Coalition Agreement” to avoid carrying out Conservative policies. At present he has not earned his Tory spurs.

apparently they're sacking soldiers so the MoD can spend more on consultants - £600 million in two years

I feel that Cameron has more human warmth than Mrs T, although like her, he enjoys an eight-figure bank balance that makes it impossible for him to comrehend the lives and feelings of most voters in this country.
I do hope he doesn't follow her line because in her latter years, Mrs T. patently refused to comprehend the notion of dissent in her government - opposition yes, but not another point of view, and that was ultimately her undoing.
i agree with NJ, Cameron should have the courage to ditch the alliance and see what he can do if his party stand alone - it has to be in improvement on the current situation where no-one really achieves anything.
