hi, i was just reading the thread about towie's electric carving knife going strong since the 70's and i was thinking what i have, and if it could beat that. Just remembered i have an electric whisk that my mum gave me a few years ago - she got it for an engagement present (1966). I still use it and i still works and in fact still has the original plug on it!

I've got a Black and Decker drill which is still in working order. It was given to me by my first wife's aunt and her husband bought it for £14 10/6 in 1967. It's got various tools of the same date as well as the original newspaper advert in the box! I've never used it and wouldn't now as everything is almost new. It's also all metal and I never trusted metal power tools!

I've also got a combination cooker which my father bought in Australia in 1970 and that's still going strong. It roasts, fries, steams and bakes meat, bread, vegetables etc and has different heat and timer settings. The handbook and recipe book give dozens of different foods and recipes. The thing is built like a battleship with an element that's about an inch in diameter so I'm not surprised it's still going!
My kettle is about 35 years old. It's a lot slower to boil than modern ones, but it will outlast any of them.
I too have a Kenwood mixer from the 1960s which I inherited when the owner gave up cooking.
I also have an electric carving knive from the early 1970s and a dishwasher bought in 1986, still going strong.
Don't ask me how many hoovers I've had, though...all brands, all types typically last about 2 years with me. What am I doing to them ?
a slow cooker which has been backwards and forwards overseas at least a dozen times (if not more) plus at minimun of 20 internal country moves - I use it still on a regular basis. Was given to me in the very early 70's - it's brilliant.

I think my oldest appliance is my tumble dryer, had it about 20 years. But have a couple of my mums saucepans that she got when she married my dad in 1945.
Like maggiebee I too have my first ironing board from 1963. Makes a dreadful grinding noise when I open it up, and my kids are always making fun of me for it, but its sturdy and doesn't wobble so I like it.

now I read the other posts I remember I have kitchen stuff that my Mum was using when I was a kid. - Ha! makes the slow cooker I posted about earlier a mere youngster.
Remembered I also have a pressure cooker that must be all of 30 years old and only had one new rubber seal in that time. Used weekly.
My trusty gas cooker which was new in 1984.
