Just started watching this and the first host Amish man has just said 'we don't want a big family, just five children' - just found it odd that he thinks that is not a big family.

My Dad was one of 11, and the OH was one of 11 children, they were a lovely close family too, not tearaways or troublesome. I'm the eldest of 4, I was getting a bit worried when no 4 came along, we only lived in a back to back at the time.
Ohhhhhh........they probably begrudged you maternity leave.
Question Author
Probably - they were a miserable bunch of so and so's. Very up themselves for a bunch of people with rubbish degrees (myself included).
Question Author
I wasn't up myself - just had a crap degree!
how about a degree in up yourself i know few people who could pass that with flying colours lol, we can learn alot from the amish, i liked the lad who was shy to admit he'd pimped his buggy!
id say 5 is above 'average' but its not really a lot... had you been on benefits etc i guess it would be a lot though

my dad was one of 10 and mum one of 6, though all of them had no more than 3 kids each... most only 2 actually, and a few only 1, which is interesting as all are fairly comfortable moneywise, but came from poorish families

ithink the amish like to have large familes as their lifestyle involves lots of community spirit and lots of labour

also - are they allowed to use contraception?
-- answer removed --
oh yes i woudl add that im from liverpool and my mum is irish (as are most of liverpool) and my dad scottish so maybe theres a trend for big families... possibly due to the whole 'no contraception' thing...although my dads mum was a protestant and mums mum as catholic.
I'm one of 7 which I think these days is considered a big family. I can't imagine why you get looks and comments Sher. If I ever tell someone how many kids are in my family most people express surprise but there's never any negativity. Although I do always feel I have add we all have the same parents, but I think that's me being paranoid.
Question Author
I have to add that they all have the same dad and were planned.
Are you going to have any more Sher?? :-)
Question Author
No, far too old!
My neighbour had 19 kids, and she was the tiniest wee woman - it always amazed me cos she barley looked able to have one!
