Sgt Rock.
Police pensions are good but I think that they have to pay 11% of their gross wage for the priviledge(?). I don't know of any other employees who pay as much.
The public sector pensions are unsustainable. So, either pension contributions increase or pension rights are lessened.
The other alternative would be to take no pension contributions from the public sector and tell them to make their own arrangements
Just so you know... The Local Government schemes are SELF FUNDING i.e the money is invested so it can pay out the pensions. I presently pay 7.2% of my salary into my pension - only 6% actually goes into 'my pot' with the other 1.2% going towards pensions for lower paid workers. This I don't mind. What really pisses me off is the Government has said (not negiotated) I'm going to have to pay another 3% from April and this won't go into the pot, it's going to the Treasury, in other words it's another form of tax. This is on top of a 4 year pay freeze, working longer and getting less. Cheers!
ChattyKathy. Would you be happier not paying any contributions and making your own pension arrangements? If not , then the deal you are being offerred must be quite attractive still.
I wish it were true chatty.
Public service pensions are paid out of Government income and we are unable to keep paying you these large amounts.
Sorry chatty, should have made my post clearer, my comments do not refer specifically to Local Government pensions but to Public sector pensions in general.
If you pay 7.2% contributions are you not in the £43K to £60K income band?
