Dodgy Plug Socket

I've been using a plug socket quite happily until today. My Dad took out the extention plug that was in it yesterday and now I can't plug anything into it. It seems as though the top pin is hitting something in the way.

Any idea what the problem might be and if it's something a novice like me could fix easily?

the top pin operates a lever mechanism to open the lower two holess and it is spring loaded. Perhaps the spring mechanism has broken and is jamming the lever.
It probably needs a new front panel to the socket. Not too difficult to do for the average handyman
But you do have to know what you are doing otherwise electrocution is a strong possibility.
