And if you were to receive one, when it the earliest you'd find it acceptable?

i only give cards to people i *don't see*, and they will be posted friday!
I've written all my cards out now, will post them next week. Any time from now is 'proper' in my opinion. I recycle last year's cards every Christmas. My local Asda always has a collection point for them.
Okay, and what about if you wanted to give someone something before Christmas

Really, Ed!!! Do behave :)

If you are not going to see them before the giving and Christmas, anytime would be fine.
Am not sending any again this year--complete waste of money in my view. will give the cash I would have spent plus , to our local hospice which is always desperate for donations. That way I think the money is doing something , not just being thrown away in a week or two.
my ex's mum -horrible neurotic harridan of a woman - was obsessed with the card she received... had a tier system of cheap to expensive
she dumped the 'unnacceptbale' ones at the back, and if anyones wasnt totally lovely you would never hear the end of it, shed go on an on about them and what rotten people they were, and analysing what they 'really' meant by the choice of picture -
snowman or santa meant they thought she was fat..or had a big nose. alcohol was a hidden insult calling her an alcoholic,
robins or winter scenes, she thought were a cop-out,
reindeer - shes was a mule.
presents were the only nice one as she felt it was what they wanted for her...
she was menopausal i think so everything was an attack...silly idiot
42 years ago I posted my cards on the 12th of December on my way to hospital to give birth to my son. Have kept to this date every year though don't sent nearly so many as I used to.
We've started receiving them already and the decorations are up everywhere, so now is about the right time to start getting them, for us at least, as we can display them up on the racks and around the home......looks nice and festive with a few cards dotted about.
Going away soon for Christmas, so will probably have a fair old few on our return, as some family/friends really leave it late to send them out.

"Proper" to give?......Most of ours are written out ( by me every year, I hasten to add) as mrs bear just hates writing them out, but loves everything else to do with Christmas..........the "far far away" ones are on the way now....and the UK and European ones... I'm thinking to post out either this Friday or Monday.....spent a fortune in stamps and special delivery parcel costs........baaaaaaahhhh humbug :0)
