we have decided to move some furniture around but where it has stood for a while there are indentations in the carpet, now if I remember there is a way if getting the marks out,not sure but I thought it was with ice

Put an ice cube on it, that should raise the pile

damp with a little warm water and fabric conditioner should plump back up again

I've succesfully got rid of them by filling with ice-cubes as you said.
