I got my son the above phone for xmas, put some songs on the sd card via the laptop but when tried to play on phone a thing comes up that says open file but when that is pressed it says no applications can perform this action. i thought it was as simple as putting on card and going to files to find songs????

Are you sure that the music files are in a format which the phone can handle? Their file extensions need to be .mp3, .ogg or .aac . The phone can't play files in other formats (such as .wma or .wav).

How do I check this, they are just from cds I put onto windows media player then using the micro card adaptor to put them onto sd card-has always worked on other phones this way?? (thanks by the way!)
Sorry for the delay in replying.

Using your PC, right-click on any of the files and then left-click on 'Properties'. Where it says 'Type of file' you should see something like 'Windows Media Player file (.mp3)'. It's the bit in brackets which is important. I suspect that you'll see '.wma' (which is Windows Media Audio format) or possibly '.wav'.

While there are plenty of free programs for converting file formats, it would be better to rip the files again, ensuring that you select the correct format:
