Boiler sime 80 format

Had boiler for two tears, no longer giving hot water. Plumber has established problem is the divertion valve. To fit and buy this part he is charging �400, he also said might as well get a new boiler for �500. I have checked and am aware that the diveration valve cost approx �45. Do you know where the added cost comes from in a job like this, or is our plumber just a robbing basket.

You are probably right on two counts. 1)The divertor valve would be somewhere in the region of �45, and 2) your plumber is probably a robbing basket!

Sounds cheap for a boiler- �500. There will probably be fitting on top of that price. Considering a valve may at worst take 2 hours tops to fit, that is about �175 per hour. it will probably take him all day to fit the boiler. That will be some bill.

had the diverter valve changed on my combi boiler last year total cost �120 get another estimate

try phoning british gas & apply for a special contract which includes a breakdown it will cost approx �26 per month for a year then after that only approx �16 per month which will cover all future breakdowns (which you will probably have many)

i have recently moved house and now have a sime combi boiler. anyone know how to set the timer for the heating to come on??

a copy of a manual would be gratefully received.

The plummer is just another dirthy thief. Make no mistake....over charging at that level is the same as being mugged. In this case, the plummer concerned taking you for the mug.
