O M G I am turning into Clarkson! Help! Of course I don't want the doddery old so-and-so buried alive. It would get her totally unwarranted sympathy.
A controversial figure. There are those who admire her because they wanted the unions bashed and she paid the police a lot of overtime to do just that. They got what they called "scargill bonuses" to beat up miners - sorry "to keep the peace". This canaille cannot even keep the police on side. They are cutting everyone's pension including the "army heroes" and the police. Nastier than Thatcher.

I agree with everything New Judge has said. In 1984 my husband and I were invited to a Reception at No 10 Downing St which was held for "entrepeneurs". That is, young businessmen who had started their own businesses and provided employment in the area. We had received grants from the Government enabling us to boost our workforce from 20 to 140.
We met Maggie and her ministers and chatted to them all. Only managed to have 3 gin n tonics though.

Margaret Thatcher sold this country to foreign companies, utilities that had been paid for by the British taxpayer sold off and that is still costing us billions to this day. Yes she gave people the chance to buy their council homes and the made those people redundant causing a huge escalation in repossessions, while at the same time ensuring that no further council homes would be built, for which we all suffer today. She was anti – society and gave rise to the greedy, clutching society ME-ME-ME Ask a Tory what compassion is and they have to look it up.

Long debate on Radio 2 today linked to the new film. Not many people stood up for her and her Government's policies, in fact she was slated by women who said she did nothing to enhance their promotion prospects and always referred to them as "housewives". OK for her to be at the top but apparently not for other women. Also slated by miners as expected.
Snafu - I agree about the unions, however both herself and Scargill had their own agendas. Scargill was determined to bring down the government - Thatcher was determined to smash the unions no matter what.
What should of happened was negotiation what actualy happened was war. Both of them were reprehensible people who put themselves and their ambitions ahead of the welfare of this country.
Who was right depends on which side of the political divide you sit but I am of the opinion that they were as bad as each other.
