What is the best way to shell brazil nuts, especially those that want to stick in the shell ? I think I heard at one time that freezing them makes the job easy. Any comments or suggestions?

Soak them in boiling water for a few hours

Nothing more frustrating than trying to shell Brazil nuts!

einsteindog - You mention soaking them in boiling water for a few hours - but seeing as the boiling water will eventually go cold, did you mean simmer them, or literally use boing water to soak them in - if you get my drift?

they stopped selling brazil nuts in shells last xmas...have they restarted again?? some idiot decided they were toxic in the shell...i love brazil nuts and love cracking them open ..it wasnt the same buying them allready shelled..
The EEC banned the sale of Brazil nuts in their shells last Christmas, but ready shelled ones were available.
Oh well, at least we can still buy them then - yummy!

Whaaat I never heard about that ? Toxic in the shell? How can they be toxic in the shell but not out of the shell. Or is this another wrong-shaped banana type thing.
