Yes Dodger, it's exactly the sort of scenario I feared when I submitted my post earlier.

A couple have paid dearly and brutally with their lives for what at first glance appear to be severe failings in the immigration system.

I believe a child was raped recently by a man whose immigration status was not monitored correctly and criminal past not properly checked. He had a long history of similar offences in his homeland yet entered the UK with impunity.

I mis-read the initial headline when I glanced at it the other day, he raped the child in his home country (Lithuania) then entered UK and raped a woman here.

The judge has some pertinent questions for the Immigration Service.
