Most of their stuff is fine but avoid the frozen lasagne!

Thanks chris! Will bear that in mind!

Asda is great, George (the clothes bit is great) obviously a good buyer, fashionable and very affordable clothes for kids and adults. Their stuffed crust Pizzas are very good, as is their deli prawn mayo sandwich filling, I don't want to put my whole shopping list on here, but I think you'll enjoy shopping there, CDs are cheap and I bought a great little Mini hi fi System for the kitchen for 18! They do a basic range, mid range and luxury range in food so you can get what you want. If anyone comes up with any own brand favourites I post you. My son loves their individual jam sponge & custard puddings. Daughter very impressed with the Asda Good For You Salsa Tuna Pasta Bake frozen meal.

I like Asda linda and most of their stuff is good. It's a personal choice really .Toiletries are good in there ..own brand shampoo etc.Their own brand washing liquid is good too.
Clothes are really good and affordable. They have a great veggie selection (frozen stuff) for my picky veggie son !!
Bakery department is very good..lovely cakes.! I don't buy fruit veg or meat there as we are spoilt and have a lovely market where we live but for everyday essentials..tins.,cleaning stuff, dairy and so on they are fine. And much cheaper than some of the others.

......and their frozen Macaroni Cheese. We bought this from Asda during a caravan holiday a couple of years ago and it was the only food in 30 years of marriage that my husband has refused to eat - it was that bad!!!

Yes ..I have to agree there Cetti! I bought it for picky and he said it was awful !!

Thanks, curiosity, shaneystar and cetti.Thats just the type of info I was looking for! I do love my prawns, and I have taken careful note of the macaroni cheese warning, cos I love that too!

Lindapinda dont try their "value" stuff or whatever its called -its awful. ordinary asda foods are good.the clothes section- if its a superstore- are really good, DONT go mad filling the trolley now.....lol
Question Author
Will remember that about the value stuff then, thanks trish! It opens on Monday.
..why dont you pop around on the sat or sunday, usually when a new supermarket opens they test the instore bakery and bake lots of bread, which they then give away...don't know if Asda follows this procedure though worth a try...
We havent got a asda near us,but when my son went to uni up in cambridge,we had one trolly full of veggie food and one trolly full of contraptions..toasters,iron,tv,etc.and they were" cheap has chips"yes even cheaper than tesco's(:)
Don't mean to offend if you're a veggie, but I don't think their fresh meat is as pumped full of water as say Tesco's. I also avoid their basic, value range (except tinned tomatoes) but find their own brand other stuff ok. Their diet coke is much better that Sainsury's.
When a new Asda opened in my town there were massive traffic jams and the store was packed with people for a couple of weeks until the novelty wore off - just something to bear in mind! Now its fine!
I've found that their fresh fruit and vegetables are not very good. One week my strawberries were mouldy by the time I reached home. They don't have a very good range of eating apples either.

We have an Asda store within walking distance, but we prefer to drive to Sainsbry's for food shopping.

I like some of the George/Asda range of clothes though, oh & the pizzas you can have made up from ingredients of your choice.

I think you will enjoy shopping at Asda I have only just recentl starting frequenting Asda instead of Tesco and I have to say I'm impressed, their clothing is great and their cd's etc. are good too with a huge choice.I agree that their own brand stuff is on the whole acceptable and their bakery dept is best of the lot--even my husband goes into Asda to buy bread and that's a break through!!! Enjoy the new store you will probably get hooked like me!!
Hi I love Asda, and our nearest is quite a drive and takes up half a day round trip! They do however deliver in my town and I have been happily shopping online for six months now, I have nothing but praise for thier service. But I cant wait till the new year when a new Asda is opening within walking distance from my house!! You dont live in Fleetwood do you? Anyway give them a go Im sure you wont be disappointed.
My pet hate with Asda is items missing from the shelves. Add the cost of a second trip (time and petrol) to get what is missing, and you ain't saving much.
Asda do fantastic fresh rib eye steaks, can't remember which name they're sold under, four to a pack only about a fiver, less than half the price of my local butcher and just as tasty. The only problem I have with my local Asda (too cowardly to tell you which one!!!!) is the clientele, chav is the word!
I've always though Asda was bit Chavy myself (maily because my ex girlfriend and her flat mate used to go there when they were on the dole), but recently I've been in and it's not too bad. The best bit in my opinion is the fresh curry section, very nice.
