Suarez - a question from a complete football ignoramus
This is what I have gathered from speaking to some of the lads at work.
Suarez was suspended for making racist comments to a player called Patrice Evra, and the next time they meet, rather than shaking Evra's hand, he refuses to touch it.
Right so far?
So, am I alone in thinking it would've been a much cleverer tactic for Suarez to have grabbed Evra's hand with both hands, and hugged him? It would've told the everyone, "Look - I have no problem with this player...it was blown all out of proportion".
Instead, it seems now the story has 'developed legs'.
As someone who finds football tedious - am I along the right lines, or is there more to this story?

Kung Fu kick a fan -ok.
Miss a drug test - ok.
Sh*g your brothers wife for years - ok.
Go with prostitute while wife is pregnant - ok.
Refuse to shake a players hand - Ban him for life.

Maybe I am being niave but I think this could have all been avoided by an apology early on. Dalglish kept the player from seeing the match referee, even though the referee had requested to hear his version. This meant the referees match report didn't fully represent Suarez's views. Liverpool could have made an apology on the lines of, we are sorry Luis Suarez made an inappropriate remark, but he genuinely did not know it was offensive. He apologises to Patrice Evra and is definitely not a racist.
November 16 Suarez says he will not apologise, so the FA charge him the next day.

an interesting point.. FA protocol is: "The Home team, led by their captain, then walks to shake hands with the match officials, and then the away team’s players. Once each Home team player has finished shaking hands with the last away team player they disperse to their favoured end to kick-in." but on Saturday it was reversed so that the away team walked to shake the home team's hands. Why would this change and why change it for this game of all games!?
