I was on a course today and whilst in the building everyone's mobile phones were only allowing emergency calls only, out side was fine, my question is if i can make an emergency call why cant i make a normal one. ?
Most mobiles will allow you to dial 999 from anywhere, it's a safety feature - whereas the normal signal has to be able to reach your nearest network pylon.
Marginal signal area - no data connection - just about works for voice - restricts calls to 'emergency' to avoid the limited bandwidth being clogged with the usual "I'm on the train" rubbish
