loft insulation and cavity wall insulation.
14 Answers
I had a phone call today telling me that if I was on any sort of benefits (which I am). I am retired, I am eligible for loft insulation and cavity wall insulation if my property is suitable.
They said it was to do with the government scheme to insulate our homes better.
Has anyone else had this. I thought if you wanted anything done, you had to Apply to the council for it. I didn't realise anyone would get in touch with you.
They knew my name and address and said someone would be in touch to see if the property needed to have this work done and no cost.
Is this genuine do you think.

I received a brochure from an organisation called Warm-front stating that I might be eligible for a government backed grant of up to at that time £3,800 for up grading my heating. The above will give you an idea of whether you qualify or not, but it would be better for you to contact the Warm Front team rather than go with a cold calling Company.

I did a bit of checking and the result was I got a full central heating system, Combi boiler, radiators, pipe work etc, cavity wall insulation and loft insulation. The quote for the work was slightly higher then the grant so I got the whole lot done for just over £200.00p. I told my mate and by the time his application went through the grant had been raised nso he didn't have to pay any excess. If you've any doubts check with the council or your local CAB but I would definitely look into it
All the work that we had done was checked by council inspectors. They went into the loft and checked the depth of loft insulation, checked and probed the cavities though you could see the insulation coming out at the top, all the plumbing associated gas and electrical work everything was checked and certified and copies of the certificates given to us to go into our records in case we want to sell the house. It also includes four years free yearly boiler service. Personally I couldn't fault the people who did the work.
Re arwyns post, you do have to be careful with cavity wall insulation particularly with older houses as the type of brick bonding system does not always leave a big enough cavity to insulate. The first house I owned was built in the 1920's and was "tied" by placing bricks at 90° across the main brick work every now and again with the result that there was virtually no cavity.
My fathers house was done as my mother is terminally ill. They made a right mess of it. Not only did they leave the surplus rolls of loft insulation they didnt need up the loft, they filled the loft space with cavity wall insultation as they didnt realise the loft was singled bricked. I spent days hoovering it all out.
Thank you paddywak. I looked up Warm-front as I have an old boiler probably 19yrs old and have applied to see if I can get help with a combi. I will let you know what happens.
This is more important to me than loft insulation as I know I already have some but not sure if it meet with the requirements and I don't think I can have cavity insulation as I believe my house may be wood framed and brick.
