They were a pop band of their time, but MP's voice used his wobbling pitch and gargling delivery to masquerade as some kind of emotional delivery, with which he managed to fool a large number of people who don't know about, or indeed care about the difference.
Personally, having witnessed him swear like a Glasgow docker at a mid-day outdoor concert in Manchester attended by large numbers of young teens and children, I have never found him remotely appealing in any way.
