I've had my boiler for nearly 10 years, regularly serviced by British Gas.We have three star cover or something and I've always been more than satisfied with the service. This morning someone rang and said my guarantee was running out and I needed to renew it.It was nothing to do with British Gas so all I can think is this another scam? What do other AB'ers think, has this happened to you.

could it have been the boiler manufacturer ???...hardware guarantee... your gas service happens annually wony have anything to do with them..may have been original supplier..often things are guaranteeed for 10 years and their records would have thrown you up?
Did they say who they were?
Just deleted a very professional and good looking scam to entice you to share your e-mail name, password and date of birth from "Account Admin," the threat being that the account will be terminated in 72 hours..... also a statement that on submission of information to carry on using the account as normal....

It's good enough to take in folk.......so this thread is more of a warning to you that this is kicking around, than a question.
sorry, giveup, thought I had posted it on a thread called "Follow up to Giveup's Strange Call" - but it's up now.....
E-on (who is our supplier) rang me yesterday and said could I confirm the last time our boiler was serviced. I told them we didn't have central heating, therefore we didn't have a boiler and surely they should have checked that on our records! "Errrrr egg on face, apologies for bothering you. goodbye!" and he was gone ............. now you have me wondering was it really E-on?
lol Ann, Eon rang me last week with the same question.
Its not necesarily a scam, more like crafty sales people.

I get them all the time for a work phone line. They word what they say very cleverly so it makes it seem as though they are from BT but a few simple questions (like are you actually calling from BT) quickly rule them out and they get a polite thanks but no thanks.

If you are wondering then just call British Gas direct and they will obviously be able to tell you all you need to know about your account.
ann....no boiler? you don't have hot water ?
No, it's the same scam as the satellite box one.
Ann has a gorgeous cave, murray.....
