I'm sure this has probably been asked many times before, but here goes................am I imagining it or are adverts, particularly on the Sky channels, louder than the progs?

Also, on the basis the beeb is not a commercial station, how the hell do they get away with interspersing their shows with god knows how many ads for their radio stations, magazines etc...the break between the progs is often longer than the breaks on commercial channels.

Crap - this Q should be in the adverts section - sorry!

Advertisers compress the audio deliberately so that it comes out loud - broadcasters are meant to keep an eye on such dirty tricks but sometimes they don't see here:

I agree about the BBC they tread a very thin line. I remember many years ago there was a fuss about it and the ruling was that they couldn't use moving images to advertise the Radio Times - Go figure

The Advertising Standards Authority recently upheld complaints against C5 for the sound levels of ads. during a transmission of Groundhog Day. As jake says, it's all to do with audio compression at the production stage and the channels are supposed to ensure the volume is reduced before transmission. Apparently audio compression is designed to make the ad.stand out, but I agree with you, sometimes they seem to jump out of the screen.

Get Sky+ never watch another advert!

You're right Ding-dong they are loud and ever more frequent!

Thanks Ding-Dong,I thought i was imagining things that adverts come on louder, my other half allways tells me to turn down the box if he is in the other room, usually watching( fottie) he says the tv is to loud, i explain that i have not turned it up but he says i must have, will now show him this as proof THANKS.

Yes it is true I have noticed they are always louder. If I watch T.V in bed then I have to turn it down whenever the adverts come on or my husband obsessivly does it. As for the BBC adverts they are very annoying.
