I have just been speaking to a young friend due to take his A levels shortly. he was very distressed because he is very bright, but says he cannot get what is in his head down on to paper. He's always had this problem but no-one has suggested any alternative ways of doing this. He got c's in his AS levels but is worried about his actual A levels. Has anyone any suggestions,he's really very upset about it and I don't know what to suggest. He has been accepted for three universities but they need 2 B's and a C.

What subjects are they?
He should speak to his tutors at college first. They should know his strengths and areas to improve.

History,English lit, not sure about the others. He wants to do History mainly.
I do sympathise but I'm afraid there is no simple solution. The ability to commit one's thoughts to paper is a prerequisite of higher education, except in the case of physical disability which precludes that. At some point he will have to satisfy the examiners at degree level.
has he ever been assessed for dyslexia? my youngest daughter was confirmed dyslexic at the age of 10 but went on to get 9 GCSE's A and A*.
Well for those subjects it's clearly important to be able to express ideas clearly on paper. If there was a major issue I'm sure his tutors would have mentioned it already, but as it's worrying him he should arrange a meeting with his tutors

Thanks for your advice. I have managed to speak to his mum who knew nothing about how he was feeling. Hopefully they are going to speak to his tutor in the week.I feel for the kid because he is such a bright boy. Thanks again.
I sympathise but cannot offer anything useful. I was(am) a crap exam-sitter.
