had blood test at drs this week. Have had a call asking me to go for a fasting blood sugar as my cholesterol is slightly raised. Are they looking for diabetes or something else do you think ??

Diabetes would have shown up on the original test and you would have been told.
Perhaps they couldn't believe the alcohol level and wanted to recheck ;-)
If the cholestrol was slightly higher than they like it is possible they want a more informative test to see whether tablets will be required to control the cholesterol level or check that no tablets are required. (been there done that and take the tablets) like many many people
No...they are simply excluding diabetes ......nothing more sinister.
No, they're just checking for higher cholestorol levels, and at the same time creating a "baseline" of your cholestorol level, thereby relax as this further checks for possible stroke/arterial problems. And gives a level on which further check on your health..
Nibble........difficult to see how a fasting blood sugar has anything to do with cholesterol.

I could be wrong.......
Seems to be the default request from any NHS blood test nowadays, OH when having blood test is always requested to fast at least 12 hours before. I've never understood the reason though, maybe you could work this out though?
nibble.....clearly they were not convinced that his blood sugar (if indeed he had one) was "fasting" and not directly indicative of a diagnosis of diabetes.

A "fasting" blood sugar would "sort it."
