Does the new anti-smoking law ban smoking in hotel bedrooms?

The total ban will extend to all enclosed areas except private homes, residential care homes, hospitals, prisons and hotel bedrooms.

There are no restrictions in your own home, nor in private cars. (Although you can fall foul of traffic laws if, by smoking, you do not retain full control of your vehicle).

I have a friend whose gran is bedridden,her carers have said she can't smoke in her own home when they are present as it is their workplace and smoking in the workplace is illegal. I know it would be good manners for her not to smoke when they are there but as it is her home they can't force her to not smoke.Some people are just jobsworths.
Exactly, daffy. If the council employees worked in the private sector and their company had to make a profit to stay in business they would not have the luxury of being able to be so choosy.
I'm a lifelong non-smoker and think it is a filthy, disgusting habit. However, the priveliges afforded to public sector employees in this matter (and many others) go far beyond what is reasonable.

Yes, totally in the UK. Many hotels promise an additional cleaning bill of �50 plus if you get sniffed!
It is ambiguous as until recently a hotel bedroom was thought of as a temporary rented private home. However the "Act" makes the offence very clear.
After 50 years I gave up exactly six months ago but still twitch, particularly in the pub!

Why should people who choose to work carering for people in their homes be less protected by law than those employee's who work in the private sector? Those who provide home care should have the same rights as other employee's, this isn't about cushy jobs- if you have ever done home caring work you wouldn't consider that these are people having it easy. It is mostly poorly paid work, that is physically demanding and undertaken by women.
You are not allowed total freedom to do what you want in your own home, murder is still illegal. Why shouldn't smokers refrain from causing harm to those working in the house, the smokers refrain from causing other health and safety issues without any problem. ps smoked for 31 and a 1/2 years

weeal, I've stayed in several hotels recently, and smoking rooms are available. I logged on the Hilton Hotels website a moment ago - link below - and you will see it is possible to book a smoking room.

These regulations include exemptions for bedrooms in hotels, and for care homes, hospices and prisons. In most cases, exemptions do not apply to the entirety of premises, but to "designated rooms", that must meet requirements specified in the regulations. The law also includes a limited exemption for performers, which applies to the performer only during the performance, where the artistic integrity of a performance makes it appropriate for a person who is taking part to smoke.
