Refund after closing Electric Account

When I move next month I will need to close the account and my Dad will open a new one in his name (at the same property). I won't be staying with the same company when I move.

I gave them a meter reading as they requested on Tuesday and looked at my new bill yesterday, which is now £180 in credit. Obviously the will want a meter reading when I close the account but would it be better to ask them to refund me the credit amount now, before I tell them I'm closing the account and then just let the final DD go out then pay whatever small extra amount there may be.

I'm a bit worried if I close the account with that much credit they might take their time about refunding what it owed.

I'd ask for refund now before final reading and bill
I would ask for the refund now, better to be safe than sorry.

As you said, they will probably drag their feet if you ask for it afterwards.
Ask now - they may keep part of the 'credit' against your next bill (they seem to invent the rules as they go along), but you should get most of it back within a few days.

Well, that seemed very easy. Called them, said I'd like it back, they said it'll be in my account within 7 days. Didn't try and get me to hold back anything.

Thanks!
