I am looking to download free photo editing software - all I want is a basic program which will crop, remove red eye, enhance colours etc. I do not do anything complex at all and find that most programs are too complicated for this sliver surfer. Years ago I had a free photoshop program which was basic but filled my needs exactly but do not think that it exists any more, so am looking for advice before I take the plunge. Thanks in advance for any advice.

Google Picasa - very easy to use and free

net.paint
I have used xnview for ages - its very good. Picasa is also good.
My personal preference is Irfanview, though Gimp is highly regarded.

They're free, so nothing to lose by trialling a few.

Thanks for the suggestions - i have tried paint before and did not get on with it very well. I know they are all free, but fear that if I install programs and then remove them that they leave "bits" behind on the computer which clogs it up. So I want to go for one that will suit me best.
I agree with sunny-dave. Picasa is great; I was offered the latest version last week and it's enhanced an already great package. But you can use as many or as little of the package as you want. Recommended.
Picasa for me too. Mrs. V., who freely admits to being non-technical, finds it very easy to use to refine and correct her images and to file away her photos.

Looks as if it will be Picassa. Thanks to all.
Try Faststone. I am a pro and I use it a lot. A great editor and viewer. Good aslo for resizing renaming and all the adjustments you have requested.
