do as Tinks said..the community mental health nurse will do home visits..and out of hours..you will get the number from a duty social worker ...there will be someone on today...get that number from police if not in book !! good luck..and be careful !!xx
Hopefully you have had some sleep

I would start with the police and see what the state of the nation looks like as well as potential support - I would also make sure that you have a friend or family member with you all day if he is at all released.

I would have thought that the police may have even sectioned him if a threat to himself, you or others.....Mention this to the police - they do need such grounds to make such an order- and an arrest within your home is not that easy to pull.

Failing this, try the Samaritans or another support group - not sure if your CAB is open this weekend. Another advice centre, well to get advice on who to go to, may be your local vicar/priest.....
Please phone Samaritans for some support and a ready listening ear. They are open 24 hours per day, 7 days per week so you will always get an answer. They're not there to judge either you or your husband, just to listen. Police tend to treat attempted suicide as "breach of the peace" and are not really all that helpful (generalisation of course) but they are getting better. Here in Dundee they are undergoing Samaritan training so fingers crossed for the future. Take care of yourself.
Very suprised he was arrested and put in cells actually. Did he even see a member of the mental health team? Normally, even if one wasn't available last night (and there should have been someone on duty) then he would at least expect to see one in the morning. Plus I really don't understand why a hospital would decide that the best course of action would be to call the police to arrest someone with mental health issues. Does seem rather confusing and certainly different to what the hospital I work for does.

Update. He was taken back to the hospital about 3am this morning, saw a psychiatrist and was released back home, have to take him to see GP on Tuesday, he is now feeling very ashamed, embarrassed and sorry for himself, I'm afraid my sympathy is a bit lacking, but hopefully we can get him on medication and some counselling and get his life back on track.
i hope your OH gets the help he requires, good luck.
Fingers crossed for you both, traci - we're here if you need us.

China, mental health wouldn't speak to him until he had sobered up, he washed the pills down with a litre of whisky. So glad he decided to take gabepentin and not the tramadol that was also in the cupboard.
