My partner and I are going to Thailand in July. I want to get a book on Thailand to help improve our knowledge on the place and give us valuable information for when we go.
I know there are a few out there but wanted to see if there was any anyone could recommend?
I've always found The AA and Dorlng & Kindersley to be quite good, just make sure you get the latest edition of whatever you choose. Have a great time, it's a wonderful country.
Don't go in July - it'll pour with rain. Friend of mine did that, and never saw the sun. Hot, yes, but also monsoon.
Go to Chiang Mai, whatever else you do.
Most of the guides will give you what you need to know. Lonely Planet get mixed reviews but personally I've used their South East Asia guides and they've provided me with most of what I've needed. Or join one of the many Thai travel online forums and pick people's brains, here's one example:
As atlanta says above, it'll be very wet over there in July: you'll probably get heavy bursts of rain every day but not 'all' day. There may be floods too.
I would recommend the Rough Guide - it will cover travel, accomodation and places to eat as well as general information on the history of the country / area etc. Are you travelling around ? And if so, are you making your own way from place to place ? If so, the Rough Guide is ideal
I would put you in touch with my uncle as he has been there about a zillion times but unfortunately for you he died last May so sorry I can not help you.
