Please settle an argument for me - are motor bikes exempt from paying on public pay and display car parks? I say no they are not, but a friend of mine never pays - he says motor bikes are exempt. The notice on the machine clearing states ALL vehicles ...... who is right please?

I imagine it depends on the local council, I know that in my local car parks motor cycles park free.
all motorbikes park free of charge in all car parks in the nearest town where I live.
Often parking for motorcycles is free of charge if parked in a designated motorcycle bay but if a car park space is used then a fee paid ticket must be purchased to cover the period of parking.
I would have thought it possible to be exempt - after all where can they display the ticket where it won't be nicked by the next motorist along ?
I think they get away with it as there is nowhere to slap a parking ticket even
if they didn't pay.

That happened to a biker friend of ours - someone pinched his ticket off his bike and he got a parking fine ticket! He now takes a photo of the purchased ticket on his motor bike showing the date and time. Good idea I thought.

With regards to my friend who says he is exempt - I am very surprised that you all think he can park free .... that doesn't seem very fair to me, when it says all vehicles must purchase a ticket.
Motor Bike parking is free in virtually all Local Authority owned car parks (the exception is Westminster).

As sir.prize says, bikers should pay if taking a space which could otherwise be used by a car.

Some private car parks charge - especially 'pay on entry/exit' as opposed to 'pay and display' ones.
This is a question I have research ed a lot. Parking in allocated bike bays are free. You may be fined/charged if you park in a Car bay. The Local Council defines the rules so they may vary from area to area. General rule Bike parking bays are FREE. hard to put a ticket on a bike , not blown off or stolen. CHeck you local council for more information.
