How to get myself motivated?

How can I get motivated?
A week ago, I moved down to a village on the south coast from London. It was my job that bought me down here, and now I've just found out that myself (and 90 others) are all going to be made redundant at the end of the month.
The good news is that I'm an oceanographer and freelance writer ... so I guess I've moved to the right area!!
But I'm spending my time at the moment, looking for work ( un-successfully, so far) and exploring the area.
Only problem is that I can't get motivated!!
I need to get motivated enough though to just get any old job, and am finding myself looking for "the right job", when maybe I should be swallowing pride and just getting out there (also might be a good way to meet locals etc).
Also I need to find the motivation to empty all the boxes and sort out my new home in the evenings.
I'm a single guy, well educated, sensible and 32 so I feel I should be able to sort myself out, but I've just lost some of the motivation ... and I'm feeling disappointed with myself about it (also think I miss London a little too).
Any ideas, help and advice would be most appreciated.
Thanks

I also think that a small amount of self-oity is healthy as part of your recovery and new direction - as long as it doesn;t get out of hand.
So allow yourself to feel cast adrift for a little bit, and then your natural instincts and drivve will kick in again - youo mnust have them to be an oceanographer, and I am a freelance writer, and I know how much drive and persistence that takes!
Give yourself a time limit - say a couple of weeks, and from that date, decide you will get your house, your employment, and your mind in order.
That should do the trick.
Good luck.

Thanks for your advice too andy - do need to give myself the time, i'm just really not a guy to sit around doing nothing either though, so have decided that tonight and tomorrow is sorting out the house.

Joining a gym - or simply making yourself get up and doing an early morning run or cycle ride would help. I'm down on the South Coast too; there are plenty of lovely places to walk, run, cycle. You could also join a cycling club - or how about sailing? The busier you are, the more motivated you'll be.
Wow ... maybe i should seriously think about joining some dating agency or something! (ha-ha)
So Scarlet where are you?
I'm in a small village just outside Chichester.
Don't get me wrong it is lovelly here, but i guess because i've spent the last 12 years in London (came here from France - I'm half Italian/half Irish) it all seems so quiet.
Sure all work out though - thanks for all the good advice!!

Whoah... this gets better...
writer. oceanographer. 32. single. well-educated.
They were all good in their own right,
But... half Irish, half Italian. Mamma Mia O'Riley.
Man - are you for real? I thought you were only in my dreams!!
There will be no need for a dating agency, and you won't be unmotivated for long if all the above is true!

Oh I've been through t'mill alright. But, out the other side smiling which is the main thing.
Single with part-time boyfriend (sails yachts, so has an affinity for the sea as per yourself?!) Not sure where the relationship is going, but it's going ok, so just enjoying it for what it is at the moment. We both like our own space too much to share..!
2 grown up children - a son & a daughter - love 'em love 'em love 'em. The best children ever - what more can I say than that?
Work in the medical field - I can't tell you any more than that cos if I told you I would then have to kill you!
Live near the Lincolnshire Wolds. Would love to move down to Devon/Dorset/Cornwall... one day.
Oh - one last thing - I'm 46. Far too old for you unless you're looking for an older Mrs Robinson-type?
