You have to bank the cheque before 11 am for the day of deposit to count as the first clearing day.
I bank with Barclays and a cheque clears on the 5th working day. So if I had put the cheque into my account on Wednesday 23rd to would not clear untill Tuesday 29th.

It takes as long as those swindling banks think you will tolerate them having the money to invest but it not being in anyone's account. It all being computerised there can now be no excuse for it taking more than a few milliseconds. I'm fairly sure the amount isn't a factor. Glad it has now cleared for you.
